Could You Tell Us Your Story From The Beginning:
Ever since I was little I was always an overweight child. At age 8, I weighed around 130lbs. I was always bullied because my weight but when I start middle school that’s when it got worse. I was in sixth grade, every single day I was bullied constantly because of my weight. I was never ‘thin’ like the other girls at my school & they constantly reminded me of that by calling me fat & so many other names. This consistently went on for two more years of middle school until I had no more self-esteem left. I was always an emotional eater, especially being bullied, so that was when I gained most of my weight. By age 14, I hit my highest weight, which was around 240lbs.
July 2011 was when I knew I needed to make a change. I started counting calories. I never ate after dinner time, and I cut out soda and other junk foods. I joined field hockey in high school because I knew I needed to get involved and I also figured that field hockey would help me lose weight. Ever since then I have been working very hard to lose weight. All of the bullying helped me become so determined too not be the ‘bigger’ girl out of all of my friends, that I I have lost 116lbs all by myself, no diet pills, weight loss programs, NOTHING.
GUIDE:
Having decided that I needed a change I began eating healthy and I ate around 1,200 calories a day. I started losing around 4lbs a week and it motivated me to keep going. I started playing field hockey and I noticed it helped me lose more weight because not only was I eating healthy, I was now exercising.
Field hockey season ended so I decided to keep up with running so my mom and I joined a gym. I ran on the elliptical most of the time but then we stopped going so I started running every other day around my neighborhood. I started out running for 15 minutes, and I gradually built myself up to now running for 35 minutes. When I started getting closer to my goal weight I started doing ab workouts and lifting weights on the days I didn’t run.

INTERVIEW:
How Did You Put On The Weight?
Emotional eating
How Did You Feel About Yourself At Your Heaviest Weight?
I was very insecure with myself and didn’t have much confidence. I didn’t like the way I looked and I always wanted to be someone different.
Were People Supportive Of Your New Lifestyle?
Most definitely, my family was the most supportive and I’m so thankful for that.
What Did You Do Differently In Day To Day Life?
Before I started to make a change I never exercised at all and I was a person that needed to snack on something while I watched tv.
What Did You Change In Your Diet?
Before I started to make a change I ate a lot of chocolate and candy. I LOVE chocolate, but now I just eat it in proportion. I also cut out a lot of carbs; I rarely eat pasta anymore.
Could You Give Us A Sample Of Your New Daily Diet?
My daily diet was eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a snack after lunch. I ate a lot of the same thing because I believe it helped me lose weight and now maintain my weight. In the morning for breakfast I would eat fruit and a tablespoon of peanut butter. I then noticed that it wasn’t filling me up enough because I was starving when it came to lunch, so I decided to look into oatmeal. I found an amazing recipe for peanut butter banana oatmeal and I fell in love with it! That is what I eat every single morning for breakfast with a cup of coffee. For lunch I ate either yogurt, and granola with fruit, or rice cakes with a tablespoon of peanut butter, fruit, and water. I don’t drink any sugary drinks anymore, all I drink is water and coffee in the morning. For dinner I usually eat salad with grilled chicken or salmon with baked cauliflower and asparagus.
What Exercise Did You Begin To Do?
I started running, but with field hockey we did different exercises. We ran a lot but we also ran bleachers, and did sprints.
Any Tough Points On Your Journey?
Yes, when I got on the scale and I didn’t see the number budge. Also when my friends wanted to go out to dinner and lunch and were able to eat anything and stay skinny and I had to pick out the healthiest thing on the menu.
How Did You Stay Motivated?
Thoughts of all the bullying I went through and seeing that it was easier for me to find clothes.
What Advice Would You Give Someone Who Was Looking To Lose Weight?
My mom brought me to a nutritionist when I was younger but it never helped. My mom asked the nutritionsit why I wasn’t losing weight and the nutritionist said that I had to be ready and have the motivation to lose weight. She was 100% correct. You have to be able to change your mindset and have determination so you can be able to stick with a new healthy lifestyle.
Did You Make Any Mistakes When You First Started?
I ate a lot of carbs and I wasn’t eating really healthy. I just focused on eating no more than 1,200 calories.

Being able to go into any store and fit into their clothes. Not having a hard time to find dresses when I go to parties. Feeling great in whatever I wear even if it’s sweatpants, ect.
Any Problems With Loose Skin?
Yes a little bit on my stomach but I’m tightening up now by doing squats and ab workouts
Did You Use Any Supplements?
No I did not.
How Do You Feel About Yourself Now?
I have a lot more confidence and I feel a lot better about myself.
What Are Your Goals For The Future?
To become a psychologist and help kids out with bullying.
