Maggie Fierro had always been in to fitness, but after giving birth to her third child she had started to become unhappy with her post baby body.

Weighing in at a lifetime high of 166 pounds, she wasn’t feeling like she used to and it took a toll on she felt about herself and the person she saw looking back at her.

“To be honest, I even had a hard time looking at myself in the mirror, and taking that before picture was actually very difficult for me to do, but I knew something had to change.”

She knew something had to change, so she made changes. Maggie overhauled her diet and workout regime. She start Kayla Itsine’s hugely popular Bikini Body Guide, did Low Intensity Steady State cardio (LISS) and started eating healthier.

The “biggest” change that Maggie made was perhaps the simplest one, she cut out the late night snacking and binging! This sign of willpower helped cut down on excess calories tremendously and transferred over to her workout motivation.

I used working out to de-stress at night instead of eating food.”

This one tip helped Maggie transform her body to new heights! Since she started working out, her focus has changed from losing as much weight as possible, to building a strong, sculpted body.

Maggie has started lifting weights to build muscle and doing High Intensity Interval Training, rather than LISS. She completes 6 sessions per week, warming up with a HIIT sprint or row, then a weight based training session.

She also adds in another late night skipping rope HIIT workout, 3 to 4 times a week, after her 3 children go to sleep.

Maggie’s diet now is all about eating sensibly and not restricting herself into binging on “unhealthy” foods. She has started eating meals that are primarily plant based, but doesn’t cut out her favourite treats.

“Although I do eat fairly healthy, I am all about balance and don’t put any heavy restrictions on my diet.” She told PopSugar. “If I’m out and I’m craving pizza, I will absolutely have pizza.”

Using this approach, combined with her intense workouts, Maggie has dropped 26 pounds. It would be more, but her altered goal to build muscle and strength has caused the scale to stall, but her body to look incredible!

Initially she had a goal weight of 120 pounds, which would have been a 46 pound drop, but after starting to love her body and how it felt with weight training, she learned to ignore the numbers on the scale and focus on what she saw in the mirror.

“When I started, I set my ‘goal’ weight at 120 pounds because in the past that’s where I thought I looked best. However, I restricted my calories and practically starved my body to reach that. Now, I feel healthier and happier than I’ve ever felt. It’s just proof that a number doesn’t matter.”

Maggie offers the following advice on her Instagram, when people ask about how she stayed committed to the process.

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.”

Maggie summarises her journey into 5 things that you must show and develop along your way, when you are trying to hit your weight loss targets.

⚡️ COMMITMENT because you’re not always gonna be motivated.
⚡️ CONSISTENCY because anything worth doing takes time.
⚡️ SACRIFICE because there will be things you may have to give up for a time to reach your goals.
⚡️ BALANCE because what’s the point of any of it if you’re only gonna be miserable and not enjoy your life.
⚡️ GRACE because you’re not perfect and you need to give yourself a break.

“One last thing, remember that your journey is YOURS and will look completely different from anyone else so trust the process and don’t compare. Be confident that you will reach whatever goals you have.”
