What Was Your Diet Like Originally?

I would start my day off with loads of slices of bread and butter and a coffee packed with 2 teaspoons of sugar. I would then have something to snack on around 11 am. I’d have my lunch at work, which would be a prepared sandwich and crisps, then when I would got home, I would eat pizza with cheese sticks and garlic bread for sides. Later on, I would have a whole multi packet of crisps, biscuits & sweets.

What Made You Start Getting Healthy?

I started suffering with my health. I would get back pain from just walking down the road. I got myself a home kit to measure diabetes levels and I was borderline diabetic. I couldn’t tie up my shoe laces without holding my stomach as I couldn’t bend down properly. Walking up the stairs was like exercise and I couldn’t lie on my side in bed as I was crushing my lungs which made me short of breath.

What Small Changes Do You Think Had The Biggest Impact?

I started off with walking more. I got myself a Fitbit and tracked my steps. My first day I did 8000 steps, now I do 15,000 or more on a daily basis. I couldn’t bare to get myself in the gym because of the size I was, so I started making small changes and decided to join weight watchers as well. When I lost a bit of weight after a couple of months, I then decided to start doing Zumba classes.

How Did You Stay Motivated?

I set myself challenges per month. I would tell myself to make sure I do 15,000 steps each day in the week and be more active over the weekends. I make sure I reward myself when I accomplish these challenges. I bought myself things I’ve wanted for a while when I’ve hit 30lbs, 50lbs, and so on. And I always make sure that I don’t beat myself up when I’ve had a bad day or two. Draw a line under it the next day. New day, fresh start!

Were There Any Particular Tough Points On Your Journey?

Sometimes it is hard to stay motivated. I’ve had a few weeks where I gained pounds and then the weight stuck for a bit. It’s always hard getting started again and pick up from where you left. But you have got to look at the bigger picture and look at the rewards you get from improving your health.

Start small, don’t overwhelm yourself with big challenges. Do a little at a time and reward yourself when you hit those targets. Don’t feel defeated when you had a bad day or week or month, because we all get those. Just start fresh the next day. It’s not a sprint, you’ve got the time. Just don’t ever stop trying, don’t ever give up completely.

What Are Your Favourite Healthy/Weight Loss Recipes?

I like fake-aways. I love making the mini pizza one at home. There are so many good websites and Instagram pages these days where you can get a lot of ideas and tips from. I think the problem we all have is time and patience. In an ideal world it would be nice to come home from a days work and have dinner sorted, so its great there’s lots of speedy recipes available with just the click of a button.

How Do You Feel After Completing Such An Amazing Transformation?

Absolutely amazing and on top of the world. I have so much more energy. I don’t live in this dark, depressive world anymore. I couldn’t be bothered to go out in public, go to social events, even get dressed or do my hair and make up. Everything was too much. Now I love walking into town, going clothes shopping, going to restaurants and going on holiday. My life has completely turned around for the better. Its all been worth it.
