Being flexible can also help you avoid injury and damage to muscles and other joints in the body, however, it is often neglected by a lot of people looking to get fit and lose weight. They instead focus on cardio and weight training, skipping out on the benefits that yoga and stretching can provide.

Combining a yoga style stretching routine into your fitness regime is a great way to maximise all the results you will get as you continue to improve your health and body. Stretching can also help improve your posture, which in turn, can help remove the illusion of a larger stomach and help you straighten up your back, making you look taller and in better shape.

Warm up fully before performing any stretching routine. Stay in the pose, or as close to the pose as possible, until you feel the target area being stretched. You can slowly increase the stretch in the muscle and hold for approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute. Remember to breathe during each stretch and to perform the motion equally on both sides. There should never be any pain when performing these exercises.

For maximum results, it is best to do the stretches everyday. Perform the ones you are most comfortable with, and then you can try and incorporate more technically advanced ones as you become stronger in these motions.
